I found a note in one of The Kid's Bible's with 1 Corinthians 1:17-25 written on it. When I flipped to this scripture in his Bible I found it traced in pen. I felt compelled to share it in today's blog.

"For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel - not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of it's power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength."
1 Corinthians 1:17-25

The Kid also had this written on the note:  "The cross was for the wages of sin."

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

Written on the bottom of his Bible is: "The way, the Truth, and the Life."

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

John 14:6

Questions to ask yourself when you struggle with self-condemnation.   #colbiblestudy

Webster's dictionary describes Self-condemnation as "Condemnation of one's self by one's own judgment."

The Kid (my dad) struggled with this very issue. He blamed himself for many things. I believe he felt, as a man, that it was his duty to bear the burden when things would go wrong. He eventually overcame self-condemnation when he fully submitted his life to our Lord Jesus Christ. As his son, I watched this transformation take place in his final years on this earth. I watched as his pain and suffering turned to peace and acceptance. I found/read this journal entry of his today and I hope that it helps you if you are dealing with the same issue. He wrote out seven questions to ask yourself when dealing with this issue. I encourage you to answer them for yourself.

1. Why should I continue to condemn myself when God no longer condemns me?

2. Is my self-condemnation drawing me into a closer relationship with God, or is it driving me farther from him?

3. What good am I doing by refusing to forgive myself?

4. Is my self-condemnation helping or hurting my relationship with other people?

5. Does my refusal to forgive myself impress God? Does he find me more devout because of my guilt and shame?

6. Is there any biblical basis for withholding self-forgiveness?

7. How long do I intend to condemn myself? What will be the end result?

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
Romans 8:1

The Kid (my dad) wrote another journal I recently found titled, "Walking with the Lord".  It's astonishing that five years after his death, I continue to find writings of his. Writings that he never spoke of, that I never knew existed. I am honored to share these new found journal entries here on the Court of Lions blog, as well as on social media like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
I'm positive that he would have been proud and so very humbled that his personal walk with our Lord Jesus Christ, through his writings, would be shared with so many.
I pray that God is honored through these posts. I pray that he uses these posts to work in others lives, to bring just one person to know him more personally.

I have come to call sinners (Matthew 9:13)
I have come representing my Father (John 5:43)
I have come to do the will of God (John 6:38)
I have come from him, and he sent me to you (John 7:29)
I have come as a light to shine in this dark world (John 12:46)
I have come to save the world (John 12:47)

The  things  which  God  has  prepared   #colbiblestudy

Going through The Kid's bible this evening I found this passage in 1 Corinthians underlined.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
1 Corinthians 2:9

I have featured this verse in a previous blog post, but since God brought me to it again tonight, I want to share it again.

1 Corinthians 2:9 reassures me that God's ways are far superior to my own understanding, but having faith in him will allow me to have his will done in my life.

God's will for us trumps our most amazing dreams and aspirations. We are, each one of us designed by him - in his image, for greatness. By keeping our eyes focused solely on the cross, by seeking God and his ways first with blind faith, we allow God's will for our lives to take over.

When I am overwhelmed by the things of this world, I literally close my eyes and picture the cross in front of me in the distance down a long road. I then imagine all of my worries off on the each side of the road. I concentrate on running towards the cross while he takes care of keeping my path to him clean. God will take care of those things on the sidelines if I keep my focus on him.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Matthew 6:33
